What is Reiki? A Brief History.

Rei = Spiritual. Ki = Energy. Spiritual energy.

Reiki is a powerful Japanese healing modality that uses spiritual energy to address, cleanse and reform all aspects of our being. It is a simple, innate practice, core to our truth as human beings; being natural energy channels. By bringing in the innate brightness of this spiritual energy, it allows our own brightness to be uncovered, underneath the layers and shadows that can collect in this world. My goal is to help everyone return to their truth, purpose and light so we can face these times of change with truth and power together.

Reiki specifically operates through precepts/principles, meditations, hands on healing, symbols and mantras and attunement. In my practice, we will focus on hands on healing, with opportunities for precepts/principle and meditation counsel. I can provide helpful worksheets for at-home meditation and precept practice.

Mikao Usui or Usui Sensi (1865-1926).

Mikao Usui was the founder of Reiki.

Coming from many different professions, his path eventually led him to priesthood as a Tendai Buddhist Monk/Priest. During his service, he meditated for twenty-one days, in which Reiki came to him under the influence of Mount Kurama. This shows how Reiki was channeled directly through the source, as seen in practices in different cultures (such as the Native American Vision Quest or Rishis channeling the origin of Ayurvedic knowledge). Once channeled, Usui also incorporated relative knowledge from other healing systems such as Chinese Medicine, Chi Gong, Kiko and Acupuncture principles into the development of Reiki, making a modern practice revive ancient roots. He integrated Reiki into his own practice and began to see remarkable results. His fame for healing ailments spread quickly through Japan and he attracted many students and prodigies. This time in Japan was crucial, for it was just beginning to open up to the West in communications and relations. Being a recently modern invention/channel, I believe Usui brought revived this new yet ancient practice to us for a reason: to assist us in these times of great change in humanity.

As always, we give thanks to the source. Thank you, Mikao Usui. â€‹

Chujiro Hayashi (1878-1940).

Dr. Hayashi was one of the last Reiki Masters trained by Usui. He originated the hand position system that is commonly used in the west that use Eastern knowledge to cover the body's major energy centers or acupuncture points. He opened one of the first successful Reiki clinics in Japan. Thank you, Dr. Hayashi.

Takata was the Master who ultimately brought Reiki to the West. To this, we owe her due credit. Being the daughter of Japanese immigrants in Kauai, Hawaii, she worked very hard to survive. Due to this, she naturally developed chronic health issues which eventually brought her in desperation to Japan. Here, she found Dr. Hayashi's clinic, who gave her daily treatments, and it took her four months to completely heal. But heal she did. Inspired and invigorated by her success, she learned Reiki and returned to Hawaii to establish the practice, with Dr. Hayashi's assistance. She was the last Reiki Master taught by Dr. Hayashi and Takata went on to initiate twenty-two Reiki Masters with her new knowledge, thus igniting the spread of Reiki in the West.

Thank you, Mrs. Takata.
